Which grind size should I choose?
Match the grind to your brewer: a quick guide to the five grinds we offer.
Grind size controls how quickly water passes through the coffee. Too fine and the cup tastes bitter; too coarse and it tastes sour and weak. When you order, we grind to suit your brewer.
| Brewer | Choose | Feels like | Brew time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Espresso machine | Espresso | Fine flour | 25–30 s |
| Moka pot | Moka pot | Fine table salt | 4–5 min |
| Pour-over, Kalita, drip machine | Filter (V60, drip) | Coarse sand | 2:30–3:30 |
| French press | French press | Coarse sea salt | 4 min |
| Your own grinder | Whole bean | — | — |
Choose whole bean if you can
Ground coffee loses its aroma within days. If you own a grinder, order whole bean and grind just before you brew.
Grinding at home
- A burr grinder gives an even grind. Blade grinders make a mix of dust and chunks.
- Start at the setting for your brewer, then change one step at a time.
- Clean the grinder every few weeks so old oils don't spoil fresh coffee.
